“One of the greatest values of mentors is the ability to see ahead what others cannot see and to help them navigate a course to their destination.” — John C. Maxwell
I work with students and their parents to help them fulfill their Co-Op graduation requirements. I do that by following a process I’ve developed throughout my career and have used it to help everyone from students looking to get their foot in the door to CFOs considering the next step in their career.
I work with students across the country via video meetings. This allows me to teach the nuances to interviewing in a way that’s effective and efficient.
My focus is students who are pursuing a technical degree like Computer Science, Game Design & Development, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Security, and related fields. I also have a 100% success rate with students with ASD.
This process involves working One-on-One with the student to help them develop the skills needed to have a successful job search. By guiding them through the job search process in a way that’s different and more effective than what is offered by their university’s career services, I help them earn self-confidence and get a better Co-Op in less time than if they tried it on their own.
Our Process
The following is a breakdown of the step-by-step process we use to help you achieve your Co-Op and job search goals.
Job Search Strategy: We start the process by identifying the companies and roles you would like to work at and creating a job search strategy. We have found through our research that identifying our target companies at the beginning allows us to focus on the right opportunities.
Resume: The next step in the process is to create a custom resume that showcases you and your skills. We work on this together and sift through all the stories and experiences you have accumulated to make sure we keep what we need and create a consistent “Interview Theme”.
Weekly Coaching Video-Calls: As part of the coaching process, we will have at least 1 virtual coaching call every week. During these coaching video calls we will discuss strategy, progress, and actionable steps to take. If you get stuck on something, we’ll make sure to address it and start making progress. We aren’t talking theory. From how to approach job fairs, to the hand shake greeting and wrapping up the end of an interview, we will be practicing and implementing the skills needed to move forward in your job search. There is no limit on the number of these calls and can be increased depending on what your needs are at no extra charge.
Interview Preparation: In addition to the Weekly Coaching Calls, once we have interviews lined up, we will have intensive interview preparation sessions. During these sessions we will do research on the company and interviewers you’ll be meeting with to figure out what makes them tick and to position yourself and your skills in the best way. I will also show you how to overcome any social anxiety you may have about interviewing. Past clients have said that they were so prepared, they were actually looking forward to the interview. There is no limit to the Interview Preparation sessions.
Accepting your Offer: Once you receive an offer, we will discuss if it fits in your short and long term goals and I will guide you on the best course of action. It’s not uncommon for my clients to receive multiple offers so working together we can figure out which one is best for you. If you receive an offer and decline to continue looking for a better opportunity, I’m with you every step of the way. My job ends on the first day of your new job.
