The 3 mindsets you need to get a dream co-op or job

Like many people, I used to set new year's resolutions for myself at the beginning of the year.  Like most people, those resolutions pretty much disappeared around February.  Although I had great intentions, I didn't have a plan for the day to day.  The opposite is also true, you may have a day to day plan however if you don't have a goal, then you'll never know when you achieved it.

This last week I came across this story that drives the point home:

Stone Mason Persuasive Interview

"A traveler was walking through a medieval town and saw three stone masons working on a stone wall. He asked the first what he was doing. The first mason spat back, “cutting stones.” Still curious about what they were actually constructing, he asked the next stone mason, who replied “building a wall,” before going back to work.

The traveler went on and asked the final stonemason what exactly they are building. He replied, “a cathedral.” The mason went on to talk about the historical significance of the cathedral, explaining that it represents someone who saved the townspeople from a disaster. He talked about the future possibilities of the cathedral, how people would come from miles around to visit the cathedral, which will bring prosperity to the village.

All three of the answers are technically correct. The only difference is the time frame. The first stone mason is “cutting stones” (short-term). The second is “building a wall” (medium term). The last is “building a cathedral” (long-term)."

These are the 3 mindsets you should embrace and develop as you go through your job search.  Every step is as important as the others and crucial to making progress.  Starting is as important as continuing is as important as finishing.  You need to know what the short term, medium term and long term goals are if you want to be successful.

This applies to any goal you may have including looking for a co-op or a full-time job.

Starting is as important as finishing.

For the next several weeks, I'll be taking you through each of these mindsets to help you reach your goals.  Every Wednesday I will send you an email on the steps you need to follow that week to help you reach your goal.  We will cover mindsets, mental blocks, techniques, tactics, and the step by step process to help you get the job you have always wanted.  I will guide you through every step of the way holding your hand and pulling you up when you get stuck and pushing you forward when you need an extra boost.

Will it be hard?  Yes.  Will many of the people who start quit?  Very likely.  However for those that are willing to make a change, for those like you, *|FNAME|* who know 2019 is the year they'll reach a new milestone, this will be the best thing you've ever done.

What goal do you have for 2019?  Have you attempted to reach it before and if so, why have/have not reached it?  Let me know in the comments below.
